Louboutin plans first US store for men

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Louboutin plans first US store for men.

Christian Louboutin, whose red-soled footwear is coveted by women worldwide, is to open his first US boutique for men in New York next spring.

News of the 1,035-sqf shop in the Meatpacking District comes after the brand opened his first boutique dedicated to men’s shoes last September in Paris.

“The men’s shoes only represent a small portion of the business at present but we think it has huge potential for the future,” Alexis Mourot, CEO for the brand, said.

Louboutin’s current line of footwear for men includes a two-tone satin “John John” derby for $895 and a black leather sneaker-like boot for $995 that features corset-like laces running all the way down to the toebox.

The Sophie Vlaming for Vogue Portugal December 2011 Shoot is Hot

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents The Sophie Vlaming for Vogue Portugal December 2011 Shoot is Hot.

The lonely, beautiful housewife story is one that is often used in fashion shoots, but it somehow never loses its charm, as is made quite clear in the Sophie Vlaming for Vogue Portugal December 2011 photo shoot.

The Dutch model appears in the shoot called ‘Jogos de Somba,’ which was shot by photographers Raphael Delorme and Thierno Sy and styled by Vogue Portugal’s famed fashion editor Paulo Macedo.

Wearing sophisticated, elegant ensembles with a recurring theme of sexy lace, the Sophie Vlaming for Vogue Portugal December 2011 editorial shoot features clothing from some of the top design houses in the world, such as Blumarine, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Bottega Veneta.

I can only hope that this Helena Bonham Carter-inspired photo shoot will bring lace off of the runways and back into the mainstream fashion world.

The Luize Salmgrieze for Glamour Spain December 2011 Shoot is Hot

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents The Luize Salmgrieze for Glamour Spain December 2011 Shoot is Hot.

It’s no secret that leopard print is one pattern that is here to stay (after all, it’s been around for how many decades?) and quirky cat-printed fashions have made an unexpected (and inexplicable) appearance in the fashion industry, but the Luize Salmgrieze for Glamour Spain December 2011 photoshoot takes the feline obsession to a whole new level.

Shot by photographer Alice Rosati and styled by Mapi Vidal, redheaded beauty Luize Salmgrieze is shot wearing several different pieces that are inspired by none other than your fuzzy feline friend.

Everything from cat-eye sunglasses and cat-eye makeup, to chic hats with little cat ears poking out of them, to just plain old-fashioned leopard print cat ears, are featured in this shoot. Check out the Luize Salmgrieze for Glamour Spain December 2011 editorial for some purr-fect spring looks.

The adorable dogs and goats used in the shoot make it all the more eye-catching. The Bally Spring/Summer 2012 Campaign is one you don’t want to miss. It gets the breathtaking Swiss Alps and the feisty supermodels in the same frame, and that’s as rare as it gets.

Roberto cavalli's glam-slam hit

Gold fever hit the Milan runway with Roberto Cavalli’s ode to empire.

Roberto Cavalli: what a rush. Gold rush, that is. From the moment the first look revealed itself from behind smoky sheer screens – an outrageously embellished gilt blazer worn over a short, pleated floral skirt – it was clear that this collection would be a Cavalli hit. Part flapper, part rock chic, part Arabian princess, the combination of pretty silk dresses in colourful prints and hard-edged tuxedo dressing is a hard one to resist.

There was never a chance that the legendary label’s signature leopard print would be left out of the spotlight, this time integrated with lavish scarf prints, while white python stamped leather appeared almost like lace when worked into jackets and second-skin trousers, later appearing in black and gold. Chunky metal wrist cuffs and heavy black lacquered wedges accessorised the look.

If the makeshift scaffolding surrounding chandeliers suspended above the runway was anything to go by, the glamour was bound to eventually fracture. Sure enough, the dresses that followed appeared in glorious stages of deterioration. Beautiful yet seemingly decaying silk florals gave way to cobwebs of ebony beaded Chantilly lace creeping down the length of backless negligee gowns.

Hanging loose from the shoulders and hugging hips before cascading to the floor in soigné folds, the dresses would surely have piqued the interest of rock royal Courtney Love who sat front row, as would the cream tulle gowns embroidered with jet beads masquerading as full body tattoos. Gold tiaras hinted that this was a regal heiress in line to inherit a crumbling empire, but if this was the case then she was going out in style.

Missoni for Target

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Missoni for Target.

After successful design collaborations with the likes of Mulberry, Rodarte, and Zac Posen, Target is readying the launch of Missoni‘s collection for September 13.

The lookbook for the 400-piece range, which includes clothes for men, women, girls, and babies as well as dishwear, a blanket, and even a bike, comes courtesy of new Tumblr blog All The Way Up Here, written by model Marina, who also wears the clothes in the campaign.

Having the spokesmodel cover a collection editorially is an innovative way chosen by Target to promote the launch, even though some of Marina’s peer-appropriate utterings are maybe a bit too transparent.

Louboutin loses to YSL in battle of red soles

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Louboutin loses to YSL in battle of red soles.

A fight by Christian Louboutin for the exclusive right to put red soles on shoes got kicked out of court Wednesday in a victory for rival Yves Saint Laurent.

The legal battle in a New York court pitted two fashion leaders in a bitter contest for what Louboutin said was the soul of its extravagantly expensive shoes — the signature scarlet outsole.

In federal court, US District Judge Victor Marrero ruled that Louboutin — even if widely recognized for its trailblazing use of red under the shoe — could not stop competitors like YSL from doing the same thing.

“Because in the fashion industry color serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition, the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection,” said Marrero, who revealed himself as an ardent admirer of the sexy slip-ons.

The million-dollar suit for “trademark infringement, unfair competition and false designation of origin” was filed in April in New York claiming that a series of YSL shoes would mislead consumers familiar with Louboutin’s scarlet soles.

An attorney for Louboutin told AFP he was “profoundly disappointed.”

“Even though the judge agreed that Louboutin’s red sole mark was famous and well known, he appears to have concluded ‘sua sponte’ that in the fashion industry one ought not be able to use a single color as a trademark,” Harley Lewin added.

“We are currently evaluating all alternatives.”

Louboutin’s glam footwear was featured on the consumer-worshipping television series “Sex and the City” and sells about 240,000 pairs each year in the United States alone, with revenues of about $135 million.

A pair typically costs hundreds of dollars, but can sell for far more, with the Maggie Leopard-Toe Pump, complete with red-lacquered under soles, listed at $1,095 in the Neiman Marcus department store.

Peppering his ruling with references to sources as diverse as pop star Jennifer Lopez and poet Walt Whitman, Marrero acknowledged Christian Louboutin’s “bright idea.”

Louboutin’s “bold divergence from the worn path paid its dividends,” he said.

The judge even waxed lyrically about the sheer appeal of the shoes.

“When Hollywood starlets cross red carpets and high fashion models strut runways and heads turn and eyes drop to the celebrities’ feet, lacquered red outsoles on high-heeled, black shoes flaunt a glamorous statement that pops out at once,” he wrote.

But allowing the color red to be trademarked was a step too far — even for shoes that good, ruled Marrero.

“Awarding one participant in the designer shoe market a monopoly on the color red would impermissibly hinder competition among other participants. YSL has various reasons for seeking to use red on its outsoles.”

YSL’s spat with Louboutin was over four shoes from the fashion house’s 2011 Cruise collection: the Tribute, Tribtoo, Palais and Woodstock models. They all have red outsoles.

However, YSL says it has featured red soles all the way back to the 1970s.

As for Christian Louboutin’s claim to a breakthrough in fashion design, YSL is scornful.

The idea for red soles was “copied from King Louis XIV’s red-heeled dancing shoes or Dorothy’s famous ruby slippers in ‘The Wizard of Oz,’” Judge Marrero quoted YSL as saying.

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents First look: Balmain’s lower-priced line.

The brand that famously sells t-shirts for $1,600 is adapting to the rougher economic climate, launching a more affordable line called Pierre Balmain next spring.

While the fashion crowd hopes the new label will stay true to Balmain’s signature rock’n'roll feel established by former designer Christophe Decarnin, its creative direction will take place outside the fashion house

the entire production will be overseen by Italian licensee Ittierre SpA, which already has similar agreements with lines like Just Cavalli.

According to a press release, the collection will include t-shirts (from €120), jeans (€250), jackets (€350), and suits (€650) for both men and women.

Jimmy Choo Reveals Autumn Winter 2011 Campaign

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Jimmy Choo Reveals Autumn Winter 2011 Campaign.

Jimmy Choo has unveiled its Autumn Winter 2011 advertising campaign, shot for the first time by fashion photographer Steven Meisel.

The campaign is inspired by cinematic 1970s Parisian glamour and conveys the darker, subversive side of femininity.

Meisel lenses Raquel Zimmermann in the old-world glamour of New York City’s Waldorf Astoria and captures a scene of stolen, or perhaps forbidden, romance.

This campaign also features men’s collection product in conjunction with the launch of Jimmy Choo men’s shoes.

The collection of Jimmy Choo shoes and handbags takes its cue from the early ’70s and the sultry stars of the time; icons Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Rampling, and Veruschka, all admired as much for their beauty and style on-camera, as for their allure and innate sense of style off-camera.

New artistic directors at Kenzo

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents New artistic directors at Kenzo.

LVMH on Tuesday announced the appointment of Humberto Leon and Carol Lim as artistic directors of the ready-to-wear label Kenzo with immediate effect.

They replace Sardinian designer Antonio Marras, who has held the post for eight years and who shows his own name label in Milan,

“After eight successful years, LVMH and Antonio Marras have decided to end their collaboration,” LVMH said in a statement, without giving details.

“Humberto Leon and Carol Lim will bring to Kenzo the freshness of their creative talent to give a new boost to this emblematic house.

I am sure they will succeed in positioning the brand on the road to an ambitious development,” Pierre-Yves Roussel, chief executive of the fashion division of LVMH, said.

The appointments follow the arrival in January of a new chief executive, Eric Marechalle, at the helm of Kenzo.

It has been seen as an indication by analysts of LVMH chief Bernard Arnault’s desire to revitalise the label amid persistent rumours that it was going to be sold.

Leon and Lim, both 36, made their name with Opening Ceremony, the fashion concept and New York based multi-label boutiques they founded in 2002.

They will now share their time between New York and Paris.

Kenzo was created in 1970 by the Japanese designer Kenzo Takada, who sold the house in 1993 to LVMH and retired in 1999. It has around 100 boutiques worldwide.

Jil Sander’s next Uniqlo range to be her last

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Jil Sander’s next Uniqlo range to be her last.

Jil Sander‘s upcoming fall/winter collection for the Japanese retailer Uniqlo - scheduled for a September release – will mark the end of their collaboration.

Initially launched for fall/winter 2009, the partnership brought the German designer’s minimal creations to the mass market for the first time.

Sander had left her own fashion house, now headed by Belgian designer Raf Simons, when it was bought by Italian luxury company Prada.

But dry your tears, designer collaboration lovers: Italian designer Donatella Versace is currently working on her line for Swedish retail chain H&M!
