Millenary hand-wound Minute Repeater with Audemars Piguet escapement

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Millenary hand-wound Minute Repeater with Audemars Piguet escapement.

Audemars Piguet
Indication of the time, initially created to “tell” the time in the dark in an age when electricity had not yet been invented, is the oldest of all horological complications. Audemars Piguet has made it part of its fundamental identity, by creating minute repeater and grand strike models right from the time of its founding in 1875. The new Millenary Minute Repeater model is in direct line with this tradition. This exceptional watch with its oval case and three-dimensional architecture reveals the essentials of its refined movement: a new AP escapement, a double balance-spring, as well as the striking mechanism and its gongs. The result is a genuine visual delight.

Perpetuating a line of exceptional watches
Drawing upon the time-honoured know-how cultivated by Audemars Piguet, the new Millenary Minute Repeater is enriching a classic and sculptural collection that already includes such exceptional models as the Tradition d’Excellence N°5, MC12, Deadbeat Seconds and Carbon One watches. Endowed with hours, minutes, seconds and minute repeater functions and equipped with a winding system specially developed for its hand-wound Calibre 2910, the Millenary Minute Repeater – like its illustrious forerunners – is a concentrated blend of expertise, technical sophistication and innovative materials. Its titanium oval case provides an atypical stage-setting for a truly magnificent sight featuring offset gold subdials inviting the observer to plunge into the mechanism’s deepest secrets. The AP escapement, the double balance-spring, as well as the hammers and the striking gongs, all become the key players of a truly three-dimensional creation.

The striking mechanism is the oldest of all complications. As early as the 15th century, certain pocket-watches already sounded the hours in passing, whereas quarter-repeating mechanisms striking the hours and quarters on demand appeared in the late 17th century. These watches endowed with a mechanical memory and which initially served to tell the time in the dark are now one of the greatest demonstrations of horological expertise, and the exclusive preserve of a few rare movement manufacturers.

A complication inscribed in the brand genes

At the time of its founding in 1875, Audemars PIguet already made minute repeater and Grande Sonnerie (or grand strike) models. As time went by, it added other complications, such as a perpetual calendar and a chronograph, as well as a power-reserve indication in 1885. The experience thus acquired enabled it to make the first minute repeater wristwatch in 1892. This masterpiece of miniaturization lastingly inscribed this complication in the brand’s genes, to the extent that in the late 1980s, when there was no more research on these models that had sadly fallen into oblivion, Audemars Piguet became one of the first manufacturers to revive this genre.

The new Millenary Minute Repeater is entirely in line with this longstanding tradition, while adopting the latest technological breakthroughs developed by Audemars Piguet, starting with the new AP escapement. As an essential component in the smooth running of a watch, the escapement serves to sequence the linear energy transmitted by the barrel. Drawing inspiration from a mechanism created in the late 18th century by a watchmaker named Robin, Audemars Piguet developed a new escapement combining the high efficiency of a direct-impulse escapement with the reliability of a Swiss lever escapement. The watchmakers in Le Brassus thereby succeeded in reducing the energy losses and in eliminating the need to lubricate the pallet-stones. This groundbreaking technical development in turn enhanced rating accuracy, long-term stability and shock-resistance.

A sophisticated device
Conceived, developed and produced by Audemars Piguet, the new hand-wound Calibre 2910 driving the Millenary Minute Repeater is also distinguished by the atypical construction of the regulating organ. The latter is composed, not of one balance-spring, but of two balance-springs placed top to tail. This flat opposite-facing double balance-spring system boasts numerous advantages: it ensures automatic compensation for potential poising flaws; eliminates the need for the “overcoil” terminal curves of so-called “Breguet-type” balance-springs, which are always very tricky to make; and also does away with the imprecision resulting from the vertical position of the watch without needing to resort to such a sophisticated device as the tourbillon. All these special features serve to ensure finer adjustment of the balance-and-spring assembly oscillating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.

The two movement barrels guarantee an exceptional seven-day power reserve. A third barrel dedicated to the striking mechanism is two and a half times larger than normal, and enhances the regularity of the note. Finally, in terms of security, the Millenary Minute Repeater is equipped with a balance-stop system designed to ensuring time-setting that is accurate to the nearest second. The new winding system also features a security device that prevents time-setting while the striking mechanism is in operation, thus avoiding any risk of inappropriate handling.

Dynamic three-dimensional architecture
Such refined mechanical features naturally deserved to be matched by equally exceptional finishing. The oval-shaped Millenary case in brushed titanium – a material featuring exceptional resonance qualities – is framed by a polished titanium bezel. The various organs within are barely concealed by the anthracite grey hours and minutes subdial offset at 3 o’clock, and by the small seconds at 7 o’clock. Particular care has been lavished on the hand-polished bevelling, on the interior angles and on the concentric circular-grained motif. The movement is also adorned by a horizontal “Côtes de Genève” pattern. This wealth of details is visible both from the top and through the transparent caseback, which together serve to highlight a particularly dynamic three-dimensional architecture. Through its impressive combination of performances and technological accomplishments, the Audemars Piguet Millenary Minute Repeater makes a decisive new contribution to the history of this collection.

Prada Gets Vibrant for Spring

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Prada Gets Vibrant for Spring .

Prada SS11 is quite unordinary compared to the season’s trend of all-white show openers.

Prada surprises us with bright orange, hot pink, lime green and fluorescent yellow (setting the tone for the new big trend of neon color!). Also, while many designers have looked to the ’70s for spring 2011, Prada’s color palette was the only thing remotely ’70s-inspired. The collection reminded us of Mexico, Brazil and maybe even Puerto Rico because of its form-fitting dresses with drop-waist ruffles that were simply to die for! We also love the oversized striped sombreros. We are thrilled that we finally have a spring collection that is just so much fun and that being said: It’s hard to pin this collection to any distinct decade because it was so modern and bright and forward-thinking.

Christian Dior Spring Couture Collection 2011

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Christian Dior Spring Couture Collection 2011.

John Galliano gave haute couture a breath of fresh air with the debut of Christian Dior Spring Couture Collection 2011.

Galliano brought the new "it" factor, 3D, to his clothes in a remarkable way. Channeling the artistry of acclaimed fashion illustrator, Rene Gruau, Galliano found a way to make all of his garments pop on the runway. Each piece mirroring the fashion illustration from which it was inspired. He added shadows by layering tulle and created lines in his garments that were a reflection of an illustrator’s pen. He used colors rich and bold that blended into one another to provide depth and texture. How he envisioned this masterpiece was astounding. He enhanced the silhouettes and exaggerated the pieces to be walking images of illustrations.

Valentino Couture Spring 2011

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Valentino Couture Spring 2011 .

Valentino’s Couture spring 2011 collection has his name written all over it.

Seems as if creative directors Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiur plan for pure elegance worked. The collection, filled with nude dresses is chic, sophisticated and absolutely gorgeous. There are a few fire red pieces just to give a little spice, but they’re still complementary to the style of elegance. The collection is mostly dresses of maxi length and knee length, but there are a few pieces that are maxi length and knee length skirts matched with tops. There are also a few jackets that can be worn as dresses and are as stylish as the dresses themselves. The creative directors switched up the pieces towards the end with a lovely floral print. -Damonica Boone

Hair trends winter 2010 2011 for women by TONI&GUY

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Hair trends winter 2010 2011 for women by TONI&GUY.

The new season brings with it fusions of styles and eras - think deconstructed couture and high-fashion infused with bespoke street undertones, manifesting in a totally wearable, yet individual DIY approach.

THE CUT…
Is uber styilised - embracing wiggy synthetic textures, the return of graphic silhouettes is here with exaggerated shapes and experimentation of textures mused by luxurious touchable fabrics such as fur.

Power-Do
Iconic 1930's show girl fast forwarded - beautifully sculptural, it is cropped and short but there is nothing androgynous or masculine about it. Graphic undercuts coupled with face framing fringes, best worn with scarlet lips for a doll-like effect.

Interchangeable
Gender-less and strong, short hair makes a significant fashion statement this season - paying homage to great ambassadors such as Bowie. Soft striking quiffs and sleek close cut sides, think boyish and sexy.

Grunge-Glam
Long shapes are alluring and full of attitude with over-processed texture and a playful sense of styling - think unstructured waves and curls and grown out fringes. A girly rebellion!

THE COLOUR…
Simple techniques in stand-out palettes, reminiscent of the iconic female 90's grunge generation, colour embraces concoctions of vintage hues with futuristic subtleties. Colour is bright, bold and beautiful and boasts 'indulgence' with luxurious fluidity and must-touch textures.

The Redhead
Surreal and sublime - red takes on an anbaric amber infused glow in shades of Tea-stained, Amber Aura and Yellow Oka, the effect is eccentric and enlivened.

The Brunette
Bold and beautiful, brunettes are rich and striking with cool undertones - it is all about technique, with under-colour proving to be a big story this season. Shades are inky and intense with tones of Indigo Blue, Orchid, Mauve, Deep Violet and Mink, cleverly worked on deep bases of Resin Brown for a high-fashion finish.

The Blonde
Blondes are innovative and really accentuate colour as the ultimate fashion accessory for this season. Introducing playful hues hidden within to achieve flashes of interest - pastel tones of Candy-floss and cloudy colour fusions of Dusty Rose and Orange Blossom with vintage roots stretching into purified blonde. Neutral tones of Warm Stone and Pranite are perfect for the warmer end of the spectrum.

Spring 2011 Trend: Trench Coats

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Spring 2011 Trend: Trench Coats.

Flouncey skirts and floral prints may be hard to think about in the dead of winter, but one spring trend we can get behind right now? The trench coat. The Burberry and Aquascutum classic trench coats may never go out of style, but designers, including Burberry creative director Christopher Bailey, are putting their own spin on the timeless silhouette (right). From leather, high-shine, or denim looks, to mixed texture, embroidered or widely belted ones, the options for Spring 2011 run the gamut, allowing us to easily express our personal style via this versatile outerwear style.

While east coasters may have to hold off on this trend for at least another month, west coasters are smack in the middle of the rainy season, and the trench (which was, after all, developed as a lightweight alternative to the heavy coats worn by British and French soldiers during World War I) is the perfect splurge-worthy item of the season.

To work more than one trend into this look, opt for a denim trench like one from Derek Lam, or a white or ivory one like those seen on the Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2011 runway.

Spring 2011 Trend: 1970s Fashion

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Spring 2011 Trend: 1970s Fashion.

The sexy simplicity of 1970s style never goes out of fashion. Those neckline baring jumpsuits, silver and gold lame halter dresses, and playful hot pants evoked a liberating time in fashion where women could wear clothes that were less constricting than those of the 1960s.

Oversized sunglasses and wide leg pants never went out of style, but they are an even bigger trend for Spring 2011. An easy skirt and loosely fitted sweater at Fendi along with a fitted pant suit by Etro are glimpses of what we can expect from 70s-inspired designer collections. For the more fashion adventurous, try a pair of metallic hot pants and matching top as seen at Elie Tahari.

Secrets to beautiful skin

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents the Secrets to beautiful skin.

Beauty Tip: What is the single best thing you can do for your skin?
Quite simply - wear sunscreen. Ultraviolet radiation damages the skin and can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, age spots, and cancer. Take extra precautions to make sure your skin is not exposed to the sun's rays. Use a natural sunscreen, or a moisturizer that contains sunscreen (at least SPF 15) everyday.

What is the second best thing you can do for your skin?
Drink lots of water. That means at least 8 glasses of water a day. Drinking water is one of the best ways to keep your skin healthy. Water helps to hydrate the skin and move waste and nutrients through the system.

Beauty Tip: Things you do daily for your skin.

Aside from the sunscreen and the water consumption, exercise, rest, and good nutrition lay the foundation for beautiful, healthy skin. A proper diet is not only good for your overall health, it also helps to ensure that your skin will receive all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that it needs to maintain and repair cells.

Ways to combat the dry skin that comes with age.
Older skin has fewer sweat and oil glands than younger skin. Dry skin may be caused by frequent baths, certain cosmetics or medications. Avoid using harsh soaps when bathing, and if possible, cut back on the number of baths or showers each week. A sponge bath with warm water may help to clean and revive skin without stripping the skin of its valuable moisturizers. When you do use soap, try using a natural very mild soap that does not contain any dyes, parabens or perfumes. Follow up the bath with a moisturizing lotion concentrating on problem dry areas. A good all natural moisturizer is one of the foundations for a healthy skin care regimen. Continue moisturizing throughout the day to keep skin healthy. Your hands and face are particularly susceptible to daily damage, and may need to be moisturized several times.

Rough Riders: Textured Hairstyles

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Rough Riders: Textured Hairstyles.

The latest hair muses? Woolly clouds and spun cotton candy. New products bring mega-volume and airy lightness to styles that are all about matte, lived-in texture.

Hairstyles, left to right: Calvin Klein spring/summer 2011 (side view), Calvin Klein spring/summer 2011 (back view), Vera Wang spring/summer 2011, Karen Walker spring/summer 2011

There was a time, not so long ago, when it would have been as unthinkable to intentionally dull down a glossy head of hair as it would be to spray a coat of rust on a factory-new car. But if the recent rage for greige nails and prematurely gray hair has taught us anything at all, it’s to expect the unexpected. And while healthy, high-shine tresses remain a covetable attribute, a slept-in, just-hopped-off-a-bicycle look is what’s au courant. From the artfully ratty ponytails done by Redken Creative Consultant Guido Paulo at Calvin Klein to Jimmy Paul’s cotton-candy-like beehives at Vera Wang, models stomped down the runways at scores of spring/summer 2011 shows sporting strands that weren’t just insouciantly disheveled, but downright messy. And, yes, matte.

“Textured, matte hair looks really modern and sexy right now,” says Paulo. “It’s a little more unkempt and rock ’n’ roll, so it has a certain ease.” Bumble and bumble stylist Jordan M., who scrunched models’ hair in his hands under a blow-dryer to give them fuzzy, fluttery flyaways for the Cushnie et Ochs catwalk, loves the casual effect it bestows on even the most prim updo: “You can put hair up into a bun or even set it, but a matte finish will keep it looking young and fresh instead of too ladylike and polished.” It’s something dry-shampoo enthusiasts have known for a while: There’s just something ineffably cool about soft-focus strands.

Bumble and bumble’s newest styling product—Bb. Texture—is designed specifically to create the rough, mussed style in one easy step. “We started seeing that sort of hand-done, second-day-hair look on the streets and on celebrities like Alexa Chung and Mary-Kate Olsen a couple of seasons ago,” says the company’s senior artistic director, Howard McClaren, “but stylists were having to use a combination of products—usually surf spray, hair powder, and styling cream—to reproduce it for shows. So we thought, there’s a real need here for something completely new.” After quizzing stylists and clients about their dream combination of qualities—dry texture with volume and no stickiness, memory and grip but also movability—Bumble’s product development team landed on the idea of a gel-cream hybrid: “It has the moldable hold of a gel, but separates and moisturizes like a cream,” says Jordan M., who recommends running Texture from roots to ends in wet hair before blow-drying it with a diffuser, or cautiously working it into just the roots of hair “to bump up body and give it that just-rolled-out-of-bed look.”

Whether used to make classic styles look edgy, to give a modern twist to wiglike ’60s shapes, or to revamp the season’s big bombshell hair, “matte hair conveys a real nonchalance,” Paulo says. “That’s partly what makes it so versatile.” Indeed, McClaren says, “the whole idea is to look like you couldn’t care less. Even though, of course, you do.”

Quick guide to Paris during Couture

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Quick guide to Paris during Couture.

With the couture shows well and truly underway and Paris at it’s flamboyant best, here’s five ways to make the most of the city of lights.

1. Take time for tea at Laudurée’s exquisite tea salon at 16 rue Royale. After witnessing whippet-thin models stalk down the runway you might not feel like indulging in bitter chocolate, pistachio or orange blossom macaroons (just try to resist), but it is the perfect prelude to a turn about the tuileries.

2. Brush up on recent fashion history at Les Arts Decoratifs (the museum of decorative arts, just a skip away from le Louvre). Les années 1990-2000 spans a pivotal and at times radical ten years in the industry with the exhibition featuring 150 designs selected from icons like Martin Margiela, Issey Miyake and Alexander McQueen.

3. Take a stroll down rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré past YSL, Givenchy, Hermes, Lanvin, and Prada, then take a left onto rue Cambon and make your way to number 31 where Chanel’s flagship store awaits. If there’s still time, duck to Colette store for the latest, coolest, most covetable everything.

4. Hotel Costes is the place to dine for the people watching alone. With its sumptuous interior and super-chic clientele it’s possible you might have trouble focusing on the menu (don’t miss dish: le tigre qui pleure). But be warned, reservations are taken on the day and they’re as hard to obtain as a ringside seat at the shows.

5. Join the long list of fabulously famous patrons to have graced the opulent surrounds of The Ritz Paris. Perch on the plush banquettes of Bar Vendôme sipping Champagne and channelling the likes of Marlene Dietrich, Ernest Hemingway, and the inimitable Coco Chanel.

Original Michael Keaton Batmobile

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Original Michael Keaton Batmobile.

Batmobiles from Tim Burton’s Batman Returns is officially up for auction, and the bidding wraps up in mere hours. According to the seller, this car was the best of the three used for filming, and comes with full documentation for the discerning collector. Power is served up by a Chevrolet 350 cubic-inch V8 with Hedman headers and an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold that bumps power north of 200 ponies.

This particular Batmobile also comes with hydraulics for easy loading and unloading, which you’ll use because the auction also throws in a custom trailer for transportation. As of right now, the bidding has ratcheted up to $311,000 with the reserve price not yet met. The Buy It Now price is set at $499,000, and the vehicle is located in Clearwater, Florida.

The seller says that if no one reaches the reserve price before the eBay Motors auction comes to a close, the car will be auctioned on live television instead, which probably means it will appear in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Supper Clubs a Comeback at Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Supper Clubs a Comeback at Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach.

The Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach is harking back to this age of refinery and elegance by bringing back the concept of Supper Clubs. They will be reinstating this concept at their re-opened restaurant, Angle. It used to be an American supper-club featuring classic appetizers, cocktail shaker libations, drought beers and award winning wine wall.

This place also uses locally grown ingredients and seasonal South Florida specialities. The list of delicacies is mouth watering and includes dishes such as Florida Stone Crabs, Taylor Bay Scallops with Corn Puree and Pomegranate, Celeriac Soup with Raisins and Peanut Marshmallow, and Five Color Hydroponic Baby Beets with Endive, Baby Fennel and Clementines.

From the entree you can pick out Gulf Coast Red Snapper with Heart of Palm and Vanilla Vinaigrette, Braised Short Ribs and Prime Natural New York 28 Day, Dry Aged Steak, and Nature Farm Veal Chop with a Natural Veal Reduction among others. The interiors have been made to resemble the Supper Clubs of yesteryears. Guests can also sit at the Chef’s favorite Onyx Tasting table, an underlit onyx and amber table featuring the Far Niente Experience with wines and chef’s plates coming in for the guests to savour.

Reed Krakoff’s First Fragrance

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Reed Krakoff’s First Fragrance.

The Reed Krakoff Collection was first shown at New York Fashion Week last February, and it launched in September. It includes ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, jewelry, small leather goods, sunglasses, watches, and accessories – a designer grab bag. Krakoff’s goal with his limited-edition fragrance is to create a “beautiful, quality, artisan-inspired product. His attention to detail is evident in the bottles for the fragrance, which are handcrafted by the Seguso family in Murano, Italy.

The house has produced high-quality glass since the 12th century. The bottles are rendered in four colors: gray, nude, silver fleck, and clear – using the sommerso technique, which involves creating a bottle within a bottle. The inner bottle is shaded with the chosen color, while the outer shell is clear. It’s very “Danish” looking to me – very modern.Oddly, the bottles are sold empty, but include two refills of the fragrance. The scent, an eau de parfum, is described as opening with a blend of black pepper, bright aldehydes, and neroli extract. It has a heart of French hyacinth absolute, white peony, and violet leaf extract, and a dry-down of vetiver heart, precious vetiver absolute, and orris concrete.

Only 100 of each color bottle will be produced, all four varieties containing the same fragrance. The bottles are hand-numbered, and each will retail for $695. Krakoff is aware that the limited run and high price tag of the scent will put it out of the reach of many people. When she wears it, she feels enveloped in a veil of well-being, happiness, attractiveness, and enlightenment. It intoxicates her like no other scent. The bottle adds to the experience – a center of attention on a spare dressing table – the most important possession on her vanity. She is self-confident and happy when she wears her fragrance, not because she is the only one within miles who can afford it, but because it’s her path to zen. This fragrance sounds divine. The notes are intriguing, and I would love to get my hands on a sample.

A watch worthy of the McLaren MP4-12C

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents A watch worthy of the McLaren MP4-12C.

One of its most famous products is called the Carrera, and the legendary Steve McQueen wore one on film while piloting his Heuer-sponsored Porsche 917 around the Circuit La Sarthe. But in reality, the Swiss watchmaker is much closer to McLaren.

Heuer took on the TAG name when Mansour Ojjeh acquired the watchmaker. His company, Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG), built the Porsche turbo engines that powered McLaren’s F1 cars through the mid 80s to back-to-back world championships. Today, TAG Heuer is part of the LVMH luxury products conglomorate, but Ojjeh’s independent TAG Company still owns part of McLaren. And now, following special watches made to accompany the McLaren F1 and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the two have come back together for a timepiece to compliment the new MP4-12C supercar.

Based on the Carrera model, the MP4 edition features a carbon fiber dial with a large window to see the movement and a big orange zero where the 12 should be, is housed in a sandblasted titanium case and affixed to the wrist with a sweet perforated Alcantara strap. The orange detailing reflects McLaren’s traditional color, and the 47-jewel Dubois Depraz Calibre 4900 fly-back chronograph movement features a perpetual calendar display.

Ralph Lauren’s Diamond Link Watch

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Ralph Lauren’s Diamond Link Watch.

A high-jewelry timepiece from Ralph Lauren Watches is this Stirrup collection Diamond Link. A full pave 18k white gold case for the small sized Ralph Lauren Stirrup is not new, but the great looking chain-style bracelet is. The case is about 28mm wide and features a specially made for Ralph Lauren Piaget caliber RL430 manually wound mechanical movement. The Stirrup style is clearly meant to as homage to Ralph Lauren’s love of equestrian activities.

There are literally hundreds of diamonds on the case and bracelet – 1,553 of them in fact. It was nice for me to play with the drool worthy watch. I am sure it would have been like cat nip for women. Total stone weight is about 24.70 carats. Yes, that is a lot of stones. The mixture of the case style and the classy bracelet are a fine mix of the unique styling of RL pieces combined with a very classic jewelry style presentation.

The Lap of Luxury: The Arch London

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents The Lap of Luxury: The Arch London.

London, a posh city bustling with luxury shopping, a slew of hip pubs and nightclubs, divine tea and scones, and more than enough historic sights to explore, is sure to constantly impress time after time.

A new luxury find, settled just a stone’s throw away from Hyde Park and amidst the luxury accommodations and shopping district of Oxford and Bond Street, is The Arch London. A newly built boutique hotel, which opened earlier this year, The Arch London merged seven Georgian townhouses and two mews houses to create a luxury hotel along the elegant Great Cumberland Place. Juxtaposing contemporary style with a classic English setting, the hotel offers its guests a quaint and lavish stay with splendid accommodations and service.

The hotel has 82 guestrooms and lavish suites decorated with modern British artwork throughout. With a creative eye for detail from the charming wallpaper to the luxurious bedding and fine furnishings, the hotel is truly a new gem to be explored. The style mimics that of the local neighborhood, custom designed to evoke novelty and charm. The refreshing mixture of bright colors, patterns, and textures combined with the refined elegance of the hotel structure itself provides a great contemporary aura without feeling stuffy or out of place. The modern amenities – from the state-of-the-art flat screen television in the granite bath to the entertainment features – offer a relaxing holiday perfect for a business trip or savvy city getaway.

The Arch London also offers a great trendsetting bar and restaurant. HUNter 486 named for the 1950’s district dialing code for Marylebone, combines the retro with contemporary style evoking a hip atmosphere, perfect for a dinner or champagne tasting in the Le Salon de Champagne. Classic English dishes with a twist are cooked in the open kitchen with an authentic, wood-fired oven and presented in a luxe dining area filled with plush leather seats and chic décor. For a quick bite try the cream of artichoke and truffle soup with the caramelized and the goat’s cheese and onion tart with pickled walnut salad. The dishes are savory and will satisfy any food craving.

Stroll through Hyde Park in the morning, after a delicious breakfast, admiring the beautiful landscapes or head to the fashionable Marylebone and stylish Bond Street for a day of shopping and lavish dining. With a perfect locale and quiet location close to all the main attractions of the great city of London, The Arch London sets the bar high for boutique luxury hotels and offers an unwinding and posh holiday in a hip new setting.

Designer Bio: Prabal Gurung

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Designer Bio: Prabal Gurung.

As one of this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists, Prabal Gurung has a fresh, modern, and superbly unique vision as a fashion designer. Gurung showed a sexy yet alluringly subtle collection at Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week, impressing the fashion industry as a new designer to watch. It wasn’t until Fall 2010 that he first showed his designs at Bryant Park. Gurung derives his inspirations from all around the world, and then he transforms his stimuli into three-dimensional wearable works of art.

Gurung was born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. He first became interested in fashion in New Delhi, India, where he studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology. From there, Gurung traveled to places like Melbourne and London, where he worked with stylists and designers on fashion shows and international publications. After years of traveling, Gurung moved to New York City in 1999, where he became an intern at Donna Karan and a student at Parsons School of Design. After his Parsons education, Gurung worked for two years at Cynthia Rowley on the design team. These experiences brought him to Bill Blass, where he worked as Design Director for five years. This is when Gurung decided to go on his own and launch his line, the self-titled, PRABAL GURUNG.

Since launching his own line, Gurung has dressed many celebrated women of today, including First Lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Demi Moore, and Zoe Saldana, just to list a few. He was the recipient of the 2010 Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award, as well as a nominee for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Swarovski Womenswear Award, and continued to become a finalist. His vision for womenswear seems to be what the world of fashion desperately needs, and the industry’s leading style icons covet his pieces. His collections are sold all over the world, as well as online.

“We’ve had a decade of tight skirts and vulgar dresses, and I wanted to make a statement about something different,” said Gurung. The industry is waiting with high hopes to see what Gurung’s point of view will bring to the world of fashion in the future.

Cashmere: How to Wear and Care For It

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Cashmere: How to Wear and Care For It.

Cashmere sweaters, from left, by Jason Wu for TSE, Eileen Fisher and Donna Karan.

Cashmere sweaters are classic, elegant and oh so soft. Coco Chanel must have been thinking of cashmere when she said, "Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury."

And with winter's arctic blasts upon us, now is the time to tap into that luxury.

Mimi Wong, a sweater knit designer at Eileen Fisher, says the rich fabric remains a classic because of its lofty feel, superior quality and light weight, plus insulating abilities.

"It is seasonless and belongs in every wardrobe," she tells StyleList. "What's great about cashmere is that you can dress it up or down. Pair it with jeans and you can go play or work. Party (by pairing it) with shiny pants or skirts."

Fashion expert George Kotsiopoulos, co-host of E!'s "Fashion Police With Joan Rivers," agrees that the fabric works in all kinds of weather.

"While cashmere may not be as warm as wool, a lightweight cashmere cardigan is versatile enough to keep you cozy in winter, but will not stifle you on a chilly summer night," he tells StyleList.

We asked our experts -- Wong, Kotsiopoulos and Lindsey Wieber Boyd, co-founder of the Laundress line of specialty detergents -- for the latest on cashmere style, selection and care.

We're feeling luxurious already.

Selection: "The touch test is the best way to tell the quality," Kotsiopoulos says. "Simply run your hand over the sweater and if you see lots of fuzzies or pills, then your sweater is made of low-quality cashmere. But even if it's the softest thing you've ever felt, move on to the label. Of course, 100 percent cashmere is the best, but cashmere-silk blends are also acceptable, provided the price is right since cashmere blends should cost less."

Color: "The natural, undyed colors of the cashmere itself is always exquisite and the metal-gray shades are beautiful," Wong says. "Both colors have longevity usage."

Shape: "Simple, slouchy, iconic boyfriend cardigans, modern tunics, oval cardigans, slouchy, long easy tops, tiny cropped cardigans..." says Wong, who is clearly a devotee.

Price: "Just because it's cheap does not mean it's low quality," Kotsiopoulos says. "Large retailers can make great sweaters simply because they buy quality cashmere yarns in bulk and pass that savings to the consumer. Always look at the label, and if it's mostly wool, then it should be supercheap."

Accessorize: "The yarn is so versatile, it can be knit into luxe wraps, ponchos, hats, scarves, gloves, throws -- and I haven't even mentioned the interesting stitches, textures and sparkles that can be turn these accessories into necessities," Wong says.

Care: "You can put cashmere into the machine, but the best way to wash cashmere or wool or blends is by hand-washing and laying flat to dry," Wieber Boyd tells StyleList. We asked her to walk us through the cashmere-cleaning process.

1. Treat stains with a prewash solution. "The first thing you want to do is check your sweater for any visible stains before you wash it. We recommend checking the outside and then turning the sweater inside out, because a lot of times there are stains on the underarms and around the collar and cuffs."

2. Remove any pills. "We use our sweater stone, but you can use a sweater comb as well. Just rub the sweater in one direction, as you would with a lint brush, and this will pick up the little nubby pills. Pilling is really natural -- it doesn't happen from washing, which a lot of people think -- it happens from wearing. It's friction that occurs typically under the arms or the back side of the sweater, from sitting down or in your car or from your handbag, things like that."

3. Hand-wash. Add a few squirts of wool-and-cashmere shampoo to a wash basin or sink filled with cold or tepid water. "It's really important that you use the right product in order to preserve the natural oils of the yarn. Let it sit for up to an hour -- it doesn't hurt it if you forget about it. Once you soak it, rinse out the excess water and soap with cold water and press it against the basin or the sink. You never want to wring the sweater because it will distort it."

4. Air-dry. Place the sweater flat on a towel to remove more water if necessary, and lay it flat to dry on a drying rack or a clean towel. "We recommend a drying rack because there's air that comes from below and above, so it dries faster." Let dry overnight, and if it's wrinkled, steam it. "Never iron it, never use the dryer. I use a steamer for almost everything, and it's really great for cashmere."

5. Don't hang it up. The number one error people make when it comes to cashmere care is hanging their sweaters. "If you put it on a hanger, especially when it's wet, your sweater will actually get bigger versus shrinking. It's really important to lay it flat. Even when you're storing your sweaters, you don't hang them. Hangers also leave shoulder marks."
