The Ritz-Carlton opens its first hotel in Saudi Arabia

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents The Ritz-Carlton opens its first hotel in Saudi Arabia.

 The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company will open its first hotel in Saudi Arabia, The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh on October 24.

The palatial hotel, with 493 rooms and suites, is situated next to the Diplomatic Quarter and adjacent to the King Abdul Aziz Convention Centre.

The hotel’s stately architecture is modeled on traditional palaces with ochre facades blending gracefully with the verdant landscape of the gardens.


Remarkable features include 49 lavish and exquisitely appointed two-bedroom Royal Suites each measuring more than 430 square meters (4,630 square feet,) and 50 two-bedroom Executive Suites at 104 square meters (1,120 square feet).

All guestrooms and suites are elegantly styled using the vibrant colors and ethnic textures of the region, with subtle touches reflecting the Kingdom’s Arabic heritage.


Native palms, 600-year old olive trees from Lebanon, and water fountains abound on the property, providing an oasis of serenity amidst the city centre.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC of Chevy Chase, Maryland, currently operates 76 hotels in the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Steve Jobs’ Unfinished Feadship Superyacht

Steve Jobs was designing his own Feadship superyacht at the time of his death. The vessel had been in development since 2009.

The design is said to be sleek and minimalist, naturally, with 40-foot-long glass walls and was to be built at Feadship’s facility in the Netherlands.

“Sometimes, word gets out about one of our yachts,” Feadship tells Super Yacht News regarding the report.

“We often build for captains of industry, royalty and other leading individuals. Understandably, our clients value their privacy greatly and consequently we never discuss our owners’ identity. We choose not to comment.”

So what would Job’s yacht look like? Feadship’s Breathe concept, first unveiled at the Monaco Boat Show last year, is probably a good indication.

Drawing inspiration from biomimicry, which imitates forms found in nature, it is one of the most radical Feadhsip designs to date.

Sony Personal 3D Viewer hits Harrod’s in London

Sony‘s Personal 3D Viewer has gone on sale a couple of weeks early at Harrod’s, one of London’s most iconic stores.

Sony’s HMZ-T1 feature two 0.7 inch, ultra-small high definition colour OLED displays (1280 x 720), giving the impression of a 750 inch 3D cinema screen.

Audio is supplied through two ear pieces, and the device promises a virtual 5.1 surround sound experience.

“The Personal 3D Viewer really is a new way to experience films and games in 3D,” said James Forrester, Category Marketing Manager for Home Video, Sony UK.

“Our goal was to recreate the cinema experience, in an immersive, personal headset. The clarity of sound and picture that the Personal 3D Viewer is able to deliver makes it just like a mini-cinema that’s just for you.”

If you’re desperate to get your hands on a pair, head on down to Harrod’s before they’re all gone. Price: £800 ($1,250).

Dior’s Animated Film “Mise en Dior”

Following recent machine-inspired videos by Chanel and Dior, the latter has released yet another creative ad, this time for its Mise en Dior necklace.

Christian Dior’s creative director of accessories, Camille Miceli, was the visionary behind the film named after the first necklace she created.

Shot from the perspective of one of its pearls, the pinball-inspired film follows its journey along the steps of the creation of the necklace, with every completed detail being ‘rewarded’ with an iconic Dior piece, such as the Lady Dior bag.


“Life and society have been quite depressed, so I asked myself, ‘How could we have some fun?’ We came up with a pinball machine,” Miceli told WWD.

UK hotel unveils most expensive dessert

Chef Marc Guibert at Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Windermere, Cumbria has created the world’s most expensive dessert.

It is made of exclusive ingredients like caviar and four different types of the finest Belgian chocolate flavoured with a combination of peach, orange and whiskey.

Styled like a Faberge Easter egg, it is layered with champagne jelly, a light biscuit joconde and glazed with edible gold leaf.

Topped with a two carat diamond, the Chocolate Pudding requires a 3 weeks pre-order and is priced at £22,000 £ ($34,000).

The dessert easily breaks the world record held by New York’s Serendipity 3 Restaurant which has a Frozen Haute Chocolate pudding at $25,000.

The Ledbury named the best restaurant in the UK

For the second year running, London restaurant The Ledbury has been named the top restaurant in the UK in the National Restaurant Awards 2011.

Helmed by Aussie chef Brett Graham, the two Michelin-starred eatery has been on a continuous winning streak in the past few months.

Monday night’s win follows in the heels of the 2012 London Restaurants Survey where 5,500 Zagat readers voted Graham’s food the best in London.

In August, the Notting Hill eatery also made headlines not for its food, but for its staff who leapt to the defense of their diners when hooligans from the London protests crashed through their front doors and terrorized guests.

Their latest badge of honor was handed out at a ceremony at The Connaught Rooms in London Monday night, reports industry publication BigHospitality.co.uk.

Meanwhile, Blumenthal’s eateries Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and The Fat Duck placed third and fourth respectively. At No. 2 is Pollen Street Social.

Awards are voted for by the National Restaurant Awards academy made up of chefs, restaurateurs, and food critics from across the UK.

Since its opening in 2005, Graham has catapulted The Ledbury into Michelin-starred status and quickly gained the attention of the culinary world and food critics internationally.

For £95 (about €109), a tasting menu at the restaurant consists of dishes like Crisp Chicken Confit with a “Risotto” of New Potatoes, Wild Mushrooms and Summer Truffle; Pork Jowl Roasted with Licorice and Short Rib of Ruby Red Beef with Celeriac Baked in Ash, Pickled Walnuts and Bone Marrow.

One Zagat reader was particularly smitten with the rabbit ravioli starter and cod with pumpkin polenta main, which is described as “beautifully executed.”

“Like staring at the sun, it’s blinding — simply awesome,” they wrote in April. “…Outstanding service and exquisite food — it doesn’t get any better than this, folks.”

The Ledbury was also the highest new entry in Restaurant Magazine’s S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants this year, debuting at No. 34.

Mercedes to Launch Baby SLS AMG in 2014

Mercedes-AMG is planning a smaller and cheaper version of the SLS supercar, which will take on cars like the Porsche 911 and the Jaguar C-X16.

In an interview with Auto Express the development director of performance division AMG, Cristoph Jung, said there is room for an AMG model below the SLS.

Jung also said that the success of the SLS Gullwing – which has now sold 5,000 models since 2009 – had paved the way for a second AMG model.

“It is important to work on our brand and grow it. Look at the Porsche 911 – it is a huge success. They have done a very good job in evolving it over the years.

The car will come as a coupé, and a roadster is also under consideration. the new SLS will be a two-seater, powered by a V8 engine mounted in the front of the car.

This engine will most likely be the 5.5 liter twin-turbo which develops up to 500 horsepower. Expect 0-60mph in four seconds and a top speed of 185mph.

The baby SLS is expected to arrive in 2014, with a price tag of around 80,000 Euros.

Pear-shaped 110-carat diamond to go under hammer

One of the world’s largest diamonds, a pear-shaped 110.3-carat yellow rock, will go under the hammer in Geneva in November expecting to fetch about $15 million.

The Sun-Drop diamond, discovered in South Africa last year, is billed by Sotheby’s as the “world’s largest known pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond“.

“This stone has immense presence and is truly stunning. It is also one of the largest diamonds ever to have appeared at auction,” Sotheby’s Switzerland co-chairman David Bennett told a news conference in Hong Kong.

The Chinese city, which has emerged as the world’s third-largest auction centre after New York and London, was the first stop of an international tour on which the precious stone is being showcased before the November 15 auction.

Quinta Essentia Superyacht

The 55 metre superyacht Quinta Essentia, the largest vessel ever launched by the Netherlands’ Heesen Yachts, has been listed for sale for $100 million.

With sleek exterior lines by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, the yacht’s most striking feature is a grand swimming pool on the aft deck complete with a waterfall.

The yacht has a very modern interior by Ken Freivokh Design and Michela Reverberi with metallic silver accents.


The owner’s suite, the largest seen on any of Heesen’s yachts, features a private balcony.

 
The yacht’s sundeck features a forward sunbathing are plus Jacuzzi with amazing views and an aft dining area with shade from awnings.

 
Centrally placed on the same deck are a luxuriously large gym and spa, complemented by steam and massage rooms.

 
Powered by a pair of 4,300kW, MTU 20V 4000 M93L diesel engines, Quinta Essentia will reach a notable top speed of 24 knots.

British luxury retailer Alfred Dunhill will open its third overseas restaurant in Dubai’s Jumeirah Emirates Towers in early 2012.

The launch of Alfie’s Restaurant and Lounge is scheduled for January 2012, to coincide with the opening of the new Dunhill fashion store in the same location.

The Dubai restaurant will be Dunhill’s first in the Middle East and its third worldwide, following in the footsteps of existing venues in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

London 2012 Olympics MINI special edition

Mini has unveiled its new London 2012 special limited edition models to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The cars are available only in colors matching the Union Jack flag: Chilli Red, White Silver, or Lightning Blue.

The mirror housings and roof are slathered with the logo for the 2012 Olympics, and a tiny Union Jack stripe runs the length of the car.



Inside, the dashboard wears a graphic showing the London skyline and the words “London 1 of 2012.”

The leather seats, handbrake, shifter boot, and floor mats all receive red and blue stitching with white piping.


The cars are available in Mini Cooper, Cooper D, Cooper S, and Cooper SD trims, with prices ranging from £17,800 to £20,860 ($27,900 to $32,700).

The cars go on sale in March 2012, but can be pre-ordered now. Just 2012 copies of the special London 2012 Edition cars will be built.

Mercedes-Benz Launches Perfume For Men

Mercedes-Benz has launched a new fragrance for men simply labeled Mercedes-Benz Perfume.

The new fragrance was launched at the recent TFWA World Exhibition retail event held in Cannes, France and goes on sale in the first quarter of next year.

The particular blend has been composed by renowned perfumer Olivier Cresp (Firmenich) and will be available as an eau de toilette, after shave, deodorant, and shower and body gel.

The world of fragrance is not new to Mercedes-Benz: the company already offers exclusively developed perfumes for the atomizers in its Maybach models and in the Mercedes-Benz S 600 Pullman.

You’ll recall that in the limited edition Maybach Zeppelin, for example, an acrylic ball is used to dispense a bespoke fragrance through the cabin at the push of a button.

The latest fragrance is designed to fit in with Mercedes-Benz's other high-end accessories, which include watches and eye wear.
